Topcon Announces New Solutions for Structural Deformation Monitoring

World-renowned positioning and spatial surveying specialists, Topcon, has released a new scalable suite of geosensor hardware and software solutions for structural deformation monitoring.

The system offering, known collectively as Topcon Delta Solutions, is sold and supported in New Zealand by established Topcon distributor Synergy Positioning Systems.

The Topcon Delta Solutions suite simplifies geosensor networking, providing hardware support for the autonomous operation of total station and environmental sensor data where monitoring for structural or environmental deformation is required.

"The Delta Solutions system is indicative of so many of Topcon’s extensive range of geospatial measurement tools in that it provides an all-encompassing system that is both intuitive to use and completely scalable," says Louie Schutte from Synergy Positioning Systems.

"In order to provide accurate deformation data, Topcon has combined a number of systems into one technology suite. Delta Link records and processes total station and environmental data, the parameters for which are set through Delta Log; a secure web-based interface through which monitoring, measurement scheduling and target management can be prioritised.

Delta Link features extensive flexibility, with a number of options available for data delivery communication. These include Ethernet and Wi-Fi, along with an integrated cellular modem offering SIM card compatibility. The battery back-up and external solar panel provides customers with added reassurance that captured data can be transmitted from the field whenever required.

"Delta Watch, meanwhile, gives project personnel the ability to monitor and manage captured deformation data," he says.

Available as either standalone software or as a visualisation tool when connected with select third-party providers, Topcon Delta Watch provides an intuitive modular system with which to manage and evaluate data captured from monitored structures.

Data from robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, levelling devices and other geotechnical systems in the field is captured and disseminated via Topcon Delta Watch for detailed, real-time evaluation.

The system allows for the distribution of scheduled reports and even gives the observer the ability to trigger alarms and send notifications via email or SMS messaging if a pre-prescribed deformation threshold has been reached.

"Taken together the reporting system will provide field staff with data confidence, as regardless of whether the Delta Watch database is connected, Delta Log always remains linked to the total station," continues Louie.

"Once communication has been restored, all captured data is restored and synchronised, providing for a continuous flow of up-to-date information."
